Melbourne Cup Top Trainers

Melbourne Cup TrainersThe one trainer that goes down in Melbourne Cup history is Bart Cummings, who has trained winners of the Melbourne Cup six time more than any other trainer and has a total of eleven victories. The horses he trained to success are, LIGHT FINGERS (1965), GALILEE (1966), RED HANDED (1967), THINK BIG (1974), THINK BIG (1975), GOLD AND BLACK (1977), HYPERNO (1979), KINGSTON RULE (1990), LET'S ELOPE (1991), SAINTLY (1996), ROGAN JOSH (1999).

Another trainer worth a mention is Dermot Weld who trains in Ireland, he has won it twice, in 2002 he won with Media Puzzle and before that he won with Vintage Crop in 1993. To bring one horse halfway across the World and win the Melbourne Cup is a great achievement but to do it twice is really top class.

A name that is well known to all racing followers in Australia is Lee Freedman and he has three Melbourne Cup winners in TAWRRIFIC (1989), SUBZERO (1992), DORIEMUS (1995), he has won the Melbourne trainers’ premiership in 1996/97, which he repeated in 1997/98, 2001/02, 2003/04 and 2004/05.
