The one horse that stands out in this time frame is Makybe Diva who won the race between the years 2005 and 2003 ridden by Glen Boss for all three victories.

We also see that an Irish trainer in Dermot Weld brought two horses over for success in 1993 with Vintage Crop and in 2002 with Media Puzzle.

Without doubt the great trainer in Melbourne Cup history is Bart Cummings winning the race four times in this period with his last winner in 1999 with Rogan Josh. Lee Freedman also saddled four winners in this time frame with the last of his sucesses in 2005 with the great Makybe Diva.
