2007 Melbourne Cup Result

The 2007 Melbourne Cup was won by Efficient trained by M Rodd and ridden by G Rogerson and was given a great ride by his jockey as he raced in midfield for the early part of the race and when he wanted to make ground he was squeezed for room and had to taken back a half mile from home. Once Efficient saw some daylight as he had to race widest on the outside of the track he powered to take the lead from Purple Moon in the last 50 yards. In fact had Purple Moon not hung left in the run to the line the result could have been different. Mahler was representing the Aiden O’Brien stable from Ireland and he ran a really good race finishing third but just found the distance a bit much in the final furlong, where he just held off Zipping for third place, Zipping finished in fourth place for the second year in succession.
