2005 Melbourne Cup Result

This was a race that the whole of Australia loved and it is what makes the Melbourne Cup so special. Makybe Diva was looking for his third straight victory in the race and was a strong favourite to do so. Makybe Diva was given another great ride in the race by Glen Boss and you could see why he loves this horse so much as Makybe Diva responds to every question Boss asked of him. Boss took Makybe Diva round on the inside saying ground as he knew that Makybe Diva was carrying a really tough weight. It was only as they were coming into the straight that Boss switched Makybe Diva off the rail and was six horses making her challenge. Makybe Diva took it up 1 furlong out and well the rest is history.

Makybe Diva goes down in the Melbourne Cup history books for her third win in the race and is considered alongside such legends as Phar Lap.

The placings in the 2005 Melbourne Cup were made up of On A Jeune who raced very wide up the home straight and while he was finishing strongly never threatened Makybe Diva who won by a length and a quarter. In third place was Xcellent who was given a patient ride by his jockey and was done for second place by On A Jeune close to the finishing line. Lachlan River came home in fourth place ridden by Kerrin McEvoy.
